My bucket list

  • Apr. 8th, 2008 at 9:10 PM

A movie came out recently (I haven't seen it yet) called 'Bucket List'.  Supposedly two men who are going to die (Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson) decide to make a list of all the things they want to do before they kick the bucket and then go do them.  (I don't know how accurate this is, as....I haven't seen the movie yet.)

So I started thinking (as did a lot of other people)--what would be on my bucket list?  Off the top of my head, nothing came.  I had all the big things I'd ever wanted:  a loving husband, a family, a house, a good life.  What more could I want to do?   It took a few weeks, but some possibilities started coming up.  In no particular order:

I'd like to go up in a hot air balloon.  I'd love to try one flight in a helicopter.  I would like to give hang-gliding a good solid try.

I'd like to watch the Cirque du Soleil, just once.  I've seen snippets and bits, but I'd like to be there, live, to watch the whole thing.  And A) they don't come to Seattle that often and B) tickets are usually close to if not over the $100 mark.  But one of these days....

I'd like to travel.  Most important, a trip to southern California to visit family, and to show that family my family.  I would love to go to Chicago and meet friends there, where I used to live, and introduce them to my spouse and our children.  From there:  New York City (again, I haven't seen all the museums, and I'd love to see more theater). Prince Edward Island, where the Anne of Green Gables books are set.  Japan, just because.  Russia, since I studied the language.  Norway and Sweden, because that's where part of my background is set, then Denmark, because I love to eat.  Australia, to see Ayers Rock.  Wales and Scotland, where there's more of my heritage, and to see Stonehenge, and other rock circles, and castles, and museums, and go on walks, and stay by Loch Ness for awhile, to see what I can see.  Gibraltar Rock, in the Mediterranean, and Greece, for the light (and the food).

I'd like to learn to play the saxophone, well enough to jam with other musicians.  I'd like to learn the fiddle, play all those great folk songs I love to listen to.

I'd like to hit the Seattle International Film Festival, and see as many movies as my tushy could stand.

And, to satisfy some baser instincts, I'd like to try some serious gambling.  Someone needs to give me $500 (yes, that's about how serious I'd like to get), and let me try blackjack or the slot machines, see what I could turn that into.  Probably just an empty pocket, but who knows?  Lightning could strike.

Hmmm, that's about all I've been thinking of, at the moment.  If more occur to me, I'll put 'em down.

Hey, a trip to Las Vegas would satisfy two of those list items: Cirque du Soleil (they have multiple shows constantly running) and gambling. I'm in! :-)
